Getting Help With My Back

As soon as I tweaked my back, I knew that I had a serious problem. I couldn't stand up straight and the pain was excruciating. I tried to hobble to the car, but I realized that I would need help. That day, my wife drove me to the nearest chiropractor, and that doctor helped me more than I thought was possible. After evaluating my condition, he informed me that I had a herniated disc in my back. In addition to adjusting my back to alleviate the pressure, the doctor also recommended some strengthening exercises that he said would help. These days, I can walk pain-free because of my chiropractor. Check out this blog to learn how a chiropractor can help you.

How Does Chiropractic Care Relieve Pain Throughout The Body?

Tyrone Berry

Chiropractic care has the unique ability to alleviate and minimize pain throughout the body, and not just in the back and neck. How can this be? How can moving your vertebrae back into place allow for pain relief in your legs, head, or arms? Actually, it's not as mysterious as it might seem. There are a few ways in which chiropractic care can relieve pain throughout the body.

Relieving Pressure on Nerves

When your spine is out of alignment, the misaligned vertebrae can put pressure on all sorts of different nerves. Some of these nerves may lead to your legs and others to your head. The pressure on the nerves can cause pain in the regions associated with those nerves — or it may make pain due to other causes even worse. When your chiropractor adjusts your back, they take the pressure off of these nerves, which can reduce or alleviate your pain.

Correcting Posture

A misaligned spine can cause you to stand and walk unevenly as you compensate for the misalignment. For instance, if your spine is slightly misaligned to the right, you may walk with more pressure on your left foot while bending slightly left to compensate. Over time, this can contribute to pain. In this example, for instance, your left leg may become tight and painful. Or, if you have an underlying condition like arthritis in that leg, compensating for a spinal misalignment may make it even worse.

Realigning your spine will make you better able to stand up straight and tall, placing even pressure on both limbs. This may not relieve your pain immediately, but it should reduce pain in the days after an adjustment.

Promoting Relaxation

Have you ever noticed that when you are tense or anxious, your pain intensifies? When you relax and let your body loosen, your pain tends to fade.

Chiropractic adjustments can promote relaxation in a few ways. First, you can often sleep better after your back is aligned since you won't deal with back pain as you're trying to fall asleep. Getting more sleep reduces your stress levels, which helps reduce your pain. Second, chiropractic adjustments relieve pressure on nerves related to your mood. This can help you relax and reduce your pain levels.

If you deal with chronic pain anywhere in your body, consider getting a chiropractic adjustment. This one therapy can address pain in a few different ways, all at once.
