Getting Help With My Back

As soon as I tweaked my back, I knew that I had a serious problem. I couldn't stand up straight and the pain was excruciating. I tried to hobble to the car, but I realized that I would need help. That day, my wife drove me to the nearest chiropractor, and that doctor helped me more than I thought was possible. After evaluating my condition, he informed me that I had a herniated disc in my back. In addition to adjusting my back to alleviate the pressure, the doctor also recommended some strengthening exercises that he said would help. These days, I can walk pain-free because of my chiropractor. Check out this blog to learn how a chiropractor can help you.

Newer Spinal Braces Are More Comfortable And Treat Idiopathic Scoliosis

Tyrone Berry

Scoliosis is a medical condition that refers to the abnormal curvature of the spine. The most common type of scoliosis is idiopathic scoliosis, which usually requires treatment. The severity of your child's scoliosis will be determined by how much it is out of alignment. In the past, this form of scoliosis required surgery. However, advances in spinal bracing have made it possible to correct the condition and avoid surgery.

Modern Braces are More Comfortable

One of the concerns with spinal braces is that patients sometimes do not wear them enough because they're uncomfortable. However, newer spinal braces are lighter and do not get as hot.

New braces can also correct the spine more effectively because they apply pressure from all angles instead of only pressure from side to side.

When to Get Your Child a Spinal Brace

Before getting a spinal brace, your child will need to undergo diagnostic testing. An x-ray can reveal how severe the condition is by showing the curvature of the spine. Your child will need X-ray tests over several years to track the development of their spine.

There are also imaging systems that use a lower radiation dosage and can create a 3D image of the spine. Your child might also need an MRI if the doctor suspects that there is a spinal abnormality that is leading to the condition.

Spinal Braces are Necessary for Severe Scoliosis

The type of treatment the specialist will recommend depends on the severity of the curvature. For example, if the curvature of the spine is very severe and your child's spine is already growing, the spinal brace will be able to have the most significant impact. A large curve is more likely to progress and become a severe problem than a slight curve.

The purpose of the brace isn't to fix scoliosis. However, it can cause the condition to become worse.

What It's Like to Wear a Spinal Brace

Modern braces are meant to fit the contour of the body. They also fit under the clothes so that they are not noticeable. Modern braces allow your child to still engage in physical activities. They only have to be worn for part of the day.

Children will often wear them while sleeping, but they must also be worn during the day while the child is awake. But when used correctly, your child will be less likely to experience a worsening curvature of the spine and the resulting medical issues.
